Jon's Rant #7 - Illegal Aliens, Immigration, and America

Jon's Rants - just in case you didn't hate me enough already.

Alien-Nation
Illegal Aliens, Immigration, and America
May 23, 2006

As all of you know, the topic of illegal immigrants in the U.S. has been the big debate in government and in the media. I've had some strong opinions on this for some time, but in light of it being America's gripe of the month, I shall hop on the bandwagon.

Remember the thing about abortion? Remember how it's legal and if you want to tread on someone's right to have one, you should swallow rusty nails so your intestines get carved up and infected? Well illegal aliens are here (all together now).....ILLEGALLY! That's right folks. Just by being here, they broke the law. And that's only the beginning of it. The second they take a job for tax-free, under-the-table cash, they are breaking more laws. Then they get all set up in America and help all their friends and relatives sneak in too.....you got it.....illegal.

Now don't get all "This guy runs a punk rock website but he's talking like some whore for the republican government" on me. These are my own thoughts about a topic that I feel strongly about. My problems with the current American government are a different subject, and even though there are problems with America, is it wrong to want it to still be a good place to live?

Have any of you ever been to China or India? Neither have I, and I don't plan to go there....ever. But I bet you've seen images of cities there on TV. I'm sure you've heard about how overpopulated those countries are. You cannot even imagine being in a place which is that over-clogged with people. I know I can't. Well that is what's going to happen here if we don't do something about it. Americans aren't making babies at the same insane rate as these crazy-overpopulated countries, but we're still making them pretty damn frequently. There's probably not much we can do about that (keeping abortion legal sure helps though...oh yes).

BUT! Millions upon millions of people who have not earned the privilege to live and work in America are going to overcrowd this country faster than anything. What makes me have that privilege? I was born here. What makes LEGAL immigrants have that privilege? They worked hard and went through a lot of bullshit to get green cards or become citizens. Am I lucky to have been born here so I never have to deal with the difficult bureaucratic process? Yes, of course. But nonetheless, I am here legally and the illegal aliens are not.

Personally I think we should allow fewer legal immigrants in than we do. The criteria is pretty stringent already, but we are expanding too fast. Unless you travel 2 hours outside of the city, you can't even SEE a place that doesn't have 100 other humans crowded around. In 20 more years, I will be surprised if we even have any forests left, because we had to make room for all the people. Why are people ok with adding to that by looking the other way when we are being hit with a perpetual flood of people who have no right to be here?

Now I've been careful not to mention Mexicans specifically when talking about my overall views about immigration and illegal immigration, but both you and I know that when talking about illegal aliens, 9 out of 10 times it is the Mexicans that are being referred to. Therefore I will spend a little time talking about them specifically.

Does the quality of life for the average Mexican citizen suck ass? Probably. Does the prospect of living in America look monumentally better than staying in Mexico to the average Mexican citizen? Probably. Would I ever even sort of think about imagining moving away from America and into the heart of Mexico? No friggin' way. So we agree....life for an average Mexican IN Mexico probably sucks holy ass compared to daily life for an average American in America.

Big whoop. You know what made our country great? Americans. We had lots of help, don't get me wrong. But we didn't like the way things were going so we made them the way we thought they should be. Remember the Civil War? Of course not, you liar. You weren't born yet. But you've heard of it I'm sure. Remember what that was all about? Half of the Americans liked the way things were going and the other half thought that way was fucked up and wrong. Lots of people died....lots of shit got blown up. But now black people aren't owned like property and forced to work for no money. So I'd say that it was worth it, wouldn't you? Slavery was a major...MAJOR disgrace to human rights and human life. Well if the living situation is so poor in Mexico, perhaps they should try to change things. I don't know how. It might take a revolution or a civil war where millions of Mexican citizens die while fighting to change things for the better. We did it, and now things are better. How many Mexicans died in the American Civil War to help win freedom for all Americans? I'm willing to bet that there were ZERO! Yea it sucks, but sooner or later, when a country sucks enough ass, the people have had enough and sadly some people are going to die. Americans are dying all over the world while trying to help people who are not Americans (even if we're not exactly fucking sure why we're doing it).

Getting to the point...if Mexico sucks, Mexicans should fix it. I think it's safe to say that America would help. You know we'd use taxpayer money (tax payer...meaning money made by legitimate workers who are here legally) to give Mexico aid, and probably troops and weapons and food, etc etc.

I'm going to change direction a little bit here. Lots of "human rights activists" are arguing FOR the illegal aliens, saying that they will do jobs here that Americans don't want to do, so what is the harm? Here is the fuckin harm. Years ago, shithead employers realized that they could pay illegal aliens 1 dollar an hour to do backbreaking manual labor. Americans who were previously doing those jobs would NOT work for 1 dollar an hour, so they quit or got fired. Because of that, the overall pay grade for certain labor jobs stays way below a wage that any American can comfortably live on. So of course Americans don't want to do it. Those activists would also argue "Well if the job is so shitty and the pay is so low, why would the Mexicans keep doing it?" I will shit in your lungs if you can even partially agree with that crap. They keep doing it because it's the only thing they can do! IBM isn't rushing out to hire a truckload of illegal immigrants, but Billy Bob's Landscaping company is, because Billy Bob is a fat fuck who doesn't give a shit who does his work or how they're treated, as long as they do it for cheap! Now an American who really needs a job comes up to Billy Bob and asks for a job, and Billy Bob says no, because he won't work for 1 dollar an hour.

The other night I watched George Bush's speech about illegal immigration and all the stuff that's involved with that. This may be the first time I've somewhat agreed with 'ol George on anything. They're not talking about mass deportation of a level this world has never seen (although I'm not totally against that).... they're talking about giving the ones who have been here for years and years a chance to become legal (but they have to get in line behind the ones who have been legitimately trying to get citizenship all along), but the ones who sneaked in recently are still pretty much fucked.

I won't get deep into it, but you should also think about all of the ways that illegal aliens are costing you money. They enjoy all of the modern American conveniences like freeways and fire departments and schools, but who is paying their share of the taxes for these things? What about the huge number of border guards and immigration officers who's paychecks come from taxpayer dollars? Think about every single thing that your tax dollars go towards, and think about how many of those are things that illegal aliens use and enjoy every single day.

I have one last thing to mention...the giant protest rallies that were being assembled all over the country a few weeks ago? Are you fucking kidding me? Zillions of illegal aliens skipped work those days so they could assemble in downtown areas and near government buildings, to protest the notion that the government might start cracking down on them being here illegally. I saw it and I still don't believe it. You are going to protest what? You are going to all gather yourselves up in one place in broad daylight to argue that you don't want to be deported?...????????? All I can say about that is they are lucky I'm not in charge, because my urge to throw a mile-wide net over the entire protesting crowd and start deporting like hotcakes would be succumbed to, but quick.

America is a crusty old house that millions of people died to help turn into a nice, clean, fresh, relatively safe place to be. Illegal immigrants are the asshole neighbor who didn't help clean or fix the house at all but still comes in every day to eat out of the refrigerator, while tracking his muddy boots across the clean floor.
