I used to associate with a political party. But, after giving it some thought, I decided not to. There are many reasons for this. What originally made me want to make this change was that I was taking too much heat over it from people I knew, and I just didn't want to deal with that. I seriously felt discriminated-against because of my political party! (Yes, it was one of the 2 big ones). Now, before any of this came about, I considered myself to be an issue-driven voter, but when you associate with a political party, it is very hard to stick to just the issues, because you want your party to win, or you want the other party to lose, etc. But that is not how elections should be decided...they should be decided by voters who have thought about the issues, and have made a decision in which they believe and which they made on their own....not by their party. So, because of the aforementioned reason and because I believe association with a party would hinder my ability to make decisions based on issues, I discarded my party affiliation. My general positions on most of the issues haven't changed much, yet some people still misconstrue this as a movement toward the other party. Others just assume that I remain in my original party. I don't know why people cannot accept that I am an "independent" voter. Some people I know actually try to prove to me (!!!) that I still belong to a certain party. It really dumbfounds me...why is it so hard for people to understand? I think what upsets me more than anything else, though, is when people are stupid hypocrites. When someone claims to be open-minded, and not to make their decisions based on their party, and then turns around and makes sweeping condemnations of the other party and the people in it, and start making biased comparisons between candidates, I think that is some reeeaaalllllyy stupid behavior. When people start doing that, I tell them that I am not going to argue with them, because there is no point in trying to get past their closed-minded stupidity. Another one of my favorites is when people will try to "throw in my face" anything bad about my former party or good about their party, like it proves that they're a better person than I am or something. I really think people that act like this shouldn't discuss, mention, or participate in politics AT ALL until they pull their heads out of their a**es. If you're going to make a stupid, uneducated decision, then just don't even vote. If you do, as far as I'm concerned, you are abusing the system.
